Workshop on Changing the consumption Pattern towards Fish and Fish products

Under the auspices of HRH Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdul Rahman Bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadli, the Saudi Aquaculture Society, in collaboration with Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and under the sponsorship of the National Aquaculture Group, has held a workshop on the transformation of consumption pattern towards fish and fish products in Saudi Arabia. The workshop was held at the premises of the National Aquaculture Group in Al-Laith on Wednesday and Thursday 21-22 Dec. 2016. 
The workshop was held in the presence of a group of relevant and concerned authorities; and attended by experts in the discipline of marketing, alongside with representatives of Ministry of Health, FDA, and members of the team concerned with the transformation of consumption pattern derived from the Consumption Pattern Transformation Initiative. Also, a number of representatives of Saudi Fish Company have attended the workshop. 
In its day one, activities of the workshop have started with a tour and visit made by the participating members to the aquaculture facilities affiliated to fish production projects in the National Aquaculture Group. The tour aimed to allow the attendees have an idea about the stages of aquaculture processes starting with hatcheries up to preparation plant, and passing by the cage-floating farms in the sea. 
The workshop was coordinated by the expert, Roy Palmer. It started with a message from HRH Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture to the attendees, which was delivered by HE Deputy Ministry for Fish Resources, Engr. Ahmed Al-Ayaddah. Then, a welcome speech was delivered by Engr. Ahmed Al-Balaa’, Chairman of the Board of Saudi Aquaculture Society and Executive Manager of National Aquaculture Group. 
The workshop aims to serve as a launching pad to create a roadmap into changing the consumption pattern in Saudi Arabia towards fish and fish products. It further aims to achieve the Ministry’s vision embodied in upgrading the rate of consumption of fish products from 10 Kg/person/year to reach the international average standing at 25 Kg/person/year.
