Global Aquaculture Alliance in the annual membership held a meeting within the events of Sea Food Exhibition in the USA in presences of 75 persons in order that all members purse the latest updates during the last year.
The meeting began with discussing the latest updates in Best Aquaculture Practices Program Certificate BAP and IBAP, the alliance's position of social liability, the new internet website related to the basics of responsible aquaculture with relation to pathology management, and the call to the new international website of aquaculture. In addition, the work schedule included the events of honoring the Chairman of Saudi Aquaculture Society and the CEO of National Aquaculture Group , Eng. Ahmed Al-Balaa, for his efforts to achieve the best aquaculture practices in KSA crystalized in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding between Saudi Aquaculture Society and Global Aquaculture Alliance. This agreements requires any company working in aquaculture in Saudi Arabia to have the BAP certificate in all facilities as a prerequisite to get the license in order to guarantee the best practices as the BAP is internationally recognized in aquaculture. It includes a comprehensive method of several domains such as social liability, animal health, social care, environment, food safety, and product tracking through supply chain.
The SAS's initiation to sign this memorandum is considered the first around the world. This states the Saudi government care represented in Ministry of Agriculture to encourage responsible and sustainable expansion of all facilities related to aquaculture in Saudi Arabia (preparation factories, farms, hatcheries, and feed plants). All parties are to work together to achieve the aim of fish farms management to reach 600.000 tons productivity level by 2029. Furthermore, this indicates the officials' care about environment and how to keep it clean through the best international practices and standards of aquaculture in Saudi Arabia to fulfil the desired objectives without making any side effects on environment. Saudi Arabia seeks to apply all standards that include providing healthy and safe product with high quality before introduction to local and international markets. This, in turn, shall take part in facing the inhabitants' increasing needs of fish protein.
It is worth mentioning that Saudi Aquaculture Society signed a memorandum of understanding with Global Aquaculture Alliance on the margins of Yanbou First Conference entitled " Aquaculture Investment Opportunities in Saudi Arabia" sponsored by HRH Prince Dr. Faisal Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Prince of Al-Madina Al-Monawarah. Signature was done in presence and honoring of HM Minister of Agriculture Eng. Abdurrahman Bin Abdul Mohsen Alfadli.
