Saudi Food & Drug Authority granted food exporters and manufactures a grace period of three months to fully abide and comply with the regulations of Gulf /Saudi Technical Regulations GSO-9 "Packaged Food Cards" and requirements of technical regulations and standard specifications related to fish and sea products stating that SFDA shall take the legal procedures in case of incompliance.
This step comes in consistent with SFDA's program to follow and monitor food predicts produced and marketed. In addition, the resolution is based on SFDA's follow up and the record of food products being produced and marketed as well as following all exported food products that some fish products don’t fulfill the technical regulations and approved specifications especially with regard to labeling process of these products, achieving public interest and maintaining national capitals.
Furthermore, SFDA assured the necessity for food exporters and manufacturers to comply with requirements to avoid rejects products and refusing their entry to Saudi markets or banning the products of food local factories from putting in local markets. The authority referred explanatory data on cards of chilled fish products must include the commercial name, race and type of fish, source of fish (sea, river, or cultured), and country of origin. This information must be included in the shipments documents.
