The General Directorate of Fisheries in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, in cooperation with the Saudi Aquaculture Society, held a workshop on modern techniques for shrimp farming on Tuesday, 11 Jumada II 1439H corresponding to 27 February 2018 at the Radisson Blu Jizan Resort in Jazan. The workshop was attended by international experts from Vietnam and Indonesia and some experts in shrimp farming in the Kingdom. The workshop aims to take advantage of advanced experiments in the development of shrimp farming techniques in some countries in shrimp production and presentation to local investors in the kingdom To shift from current conventional production to high-density production. These technologies will help to multiply the volume of production, reduce the space used, provide greater control of the dynamic security, reduce any effects on the environment and achieve double returns through the development of the techniques used and good project management.
The Jazan area was chosen to embrace the workshop, as the region is of great importance for shrimp farming, where the Jazan region is one of the best suited for shrimp farming and there are currently about three shrimp farming projects in the region. Aquaculture projects, especially shrimp production projects, are counted as an important economic tributary for the Development and evolution of the region's coasts.
The General Directorate of Fisheries with the Saudi Aquaculture Society, through organizing this workshop, sought to invite Saudi investors, farmers, experts and technicians working in marine and inland aquaculture projects and the participation of research bodies concerned with aquaculture research.
Shrimp farming projects in the kingdom have made great strides in growth and expansion over the past 20 years, especially at the level of production and quality. The Saudi shrimps product has reached many markets around the world. In 2016, production reached 25 thousand tons.
