A joint meeting was Held on Wednesday, 2nd Muharram 1440H corresponding to 12th September 2018 in Jeddah Municipality in participation of Jeddah Mayor- Saleh bin Ali bin Abdul Rahman Al-Turki, the CEO of the National Fisheries Development Program and the Director General of the General Directorate of Fisheries in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture- Dr. Ali Mohammed Al-Shaikhi, the Chairman of Saudi Aquaculture Society- Eng. Ahmed bin Rashid Al-Balaa and the Secretary General of Saudi Aquaculture Society- Eng. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Odaiby.
During the meeting, there was an agreement to sign a memorandum of understanding between the National Fisheries Development Program and Jeddah Municipality, which focuses on cooperation in the development of fishing ports, development of the Central Fish Market and the Fish Auction Market, auditing fish markets, Contributing in the promotion of the consumer pattern of fishery products, supporting SAMAQ project in the province and working to improve and develop the status of cooperative societies for fishermen in line with the vision of Saudi Arabia 2030.
On the sideline of the meeting, Dr. Ali has reviewed the initiatives of the National Fisheries Development Program in the National Transition Program 2020 including the initiative to establish and develop fishing harbors in the coastal regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to enhancing the contribution of the fisheries sector to national food security, improving the quality of targeted products, providing more job opportunities, improving the incomes of fishermen and creating a healthy and safe environment.
