The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participates in the meetings and discussions of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which will be held during the period from 16-18 December 2019 at the headquarters of the Organization in the Italian capital, Rome. Entitled "Moving forward through lessons learned in emergency response procedures for aquatic diseases", the meeting is attended by a number of countries concerned with the aquaculture sector to review the experiences they are taking and their ability to respond quickly to facing challenges diseases, which are considered as one of the biggest risks facing the aquaculture industry in the world.
The Kingdom presented a visual presentation on the preparations and procedures followed to confront any emergency cases of aquatic diseases, presented by the Director of the Department of Health and Fish Resources Services in the General Department of Fisheries, Engineer Faris Al-Ghamdi.
It is worth noting that the Kingdom has taken a number of important measures to be at the forefront of countries that adhere to high standards in this aspect represented by the National Program for Monitoring Biosecurity in National Aquaculture Projects, which was launched by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and supervised by the Saudi Aquaculture Society, which includes several measures It includes continuous and periodic monitoring of projects, collecting and examining samples in local laboratories, as well as cooperating with international laboratories, training qualified national cadres for this purpose, attracting a number of international experts, and holding specialized workshops on a regular basis. As it had the effect of not having any emergency cases of illness that posed a real danger to the industry.
