The joint committee to monitor fish markets in the Kingdom, formed by the Food and Drug General Authority, the Environmental Health Department in the Riyadh Municipality, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture represented by the Fish Wealth Department and the Saudi Aquaculture Society, with the participation of the Field Control Division of the Riyadh Region Police, carried out a joint field campaign to monitor the fish markets in Al-Batha'a Market Riyadh.
As a result of the campaign, a number of violations were detected, including:
- Poor hygiene of cutting machines and equipment
- Presence of insects
- Lack of clean floors and fractures
- Not covering the drain holes
- Fish and shrimp from prohibited countries
- Ice not suitable for use
- Frozen fish that is thawed and resold as fresh fish
- Use of unspecified display equipment
- Lack of Product data and label
- lack of personal hygiene for workers.
Invalid fish were also destroyed, including Kingfish - Al Shaar - imported re-thawed shrimp - Egyptian mullet - Egyptian tilapia - pigeon white - grouper
The quantity that was destroyed was estimated to be approximately 2,500 kilos.
