In continuation of the series of workshops held by the Saudi Aquaculture Society in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture to activate and implement the bio-security protocol in aquaculture projects and present the experiences of those projects and the arrangements made in this regard.
The Saudi Aquaculture Society in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture held the third workshop on bio-security in aquacultural projects on Sunday, 17/08/1435 H, corresponding to 15/06/2014 G, at the headquarters of the Fisheries Research Center in Jeddah, in the presence of representatives of some aquacultural projects and the bio-security unit in the fish farming Department.
The workshop witnessed, for the first time, the participation of marine fish farming projects which use floating cage systems. The bio-security proposals relevant to these projects and a review of some experiences were presented in this workshop, which emphasizes the willingness of the Saudi Aquacultural Society and the Ministry of Agriculture to broaden the scope of participation in these workshops to include the largest possible number of operating projects, in order to exchange experiences and review practices and transfer them.
The workshop was concluded with a recommendation from H.E. the Secretary General of the Saudi Aquaculture Society, engineer/ Ibrahim Al- Mishari, who stressed the need to compel the aquaculture projects operating in this sector to attend and participate in these workshops and provide presentations on the steps taken with respect of the application of bio-security protocol.
