HM Minister of Agriculture Eng. Abdurrahman Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadli signs in his mistrial office today biosecurity control project in aquaculture projects (in total amount 19.400.000 SAR for 36 months) with Chairman of Saudi Aquaculture Society Eng. Ahmed Rashid Al-Balaa. Sa is a national society with legal entity and independent financial positions working under supervision of ministry of agriculture approved by Council of Ministers' resolution No. 73 on 143/03/1433 H.
Eng. Al-Fadli praised, during the signing ceremony, the constructive cooperation between Ministry of Agriculture and Saudi Aquaculture Society in all aquaculture fields especially biosecurity domain.
From his side, Eng. Al-Balaa thanked Minister of Agriculture for the ministry trust in the Saudi Aquaculture Society stating his pride of the achievements of aquaculture during the last period and the importance of the next stage.
On the other hand, the Undersecretary of Fish Resources Eng. Ahmed Saleh Al-Eyadah pointed out that such contract is considered an important step to draw the necessary frameworks and ideal work styles of biosecurity programs and applications in all fields as well as providing experts and laborers in this field and the necessary equipment and tools for its success. In addition, it shall encourage investment by private sector and enhance aquaculture industry and its products and the related to develop this sector in response to the sublime instructions crowned by the Council of Ministers resolution approving the setting out of the national program for fish resources sector development through participating in preparing the conditions and standards to be applied on the aquaculture industry and products as well as studying the regulations and specifications of aquaculture and products and proposing mechanisms and methods of control and inspection. It shall also work on granting a logo stating that the institutions applies aquaculture production standards according to the international ones. The program shall study the obstacles facing aquaculture industry in cooperation with ministry of agriculture.
Ministry of Agriculture relies on this contract to achieve the objectives of biosecurity that help in establishing a strong national base of aquaculture industry to reelect, in its turn, the sustainability of resources and providing a safe health food taking part in meeting the rapid needs for fish protein.
The Undersecretary of Fish Resources explained the importance of singing the contract and cooperation between ministry of agriculture and Saudi Aquaculture Society in the field of aquaculture projects biosecurity aiming to prevent the risks of pathogen, guarantee health and safety of aquaculture products, control their quality in aquaculture projects in Saudi Arabia, and guarantee the environmental sustainability of such projects.
In addition, HM pointed out that the contract helps the ministry in its strategy to promote the productive capacity of aquaculture projects to 100 thousand tons during 5 years, then 600 thousand tons during 15 years.
Eng. Al-Eyadah added that biosecurity of fish resources in general and aquaculture industry in particular occupies great important due to its role in providing the health regulations to protect the cultured aqua organisms and participating in developing industry according to the current and future trends of Saudi Arabia.
