Today, Deputy Minister for Fishery Resources Eng. Ahmed Bin Saleh Al-Eyadah signed the contract of "marine survey of the sites suitable for aquaculture in floating cages in the regional water on the Red Sea" in total value of 9.601.924 SAR for 36 months with one of the national offices specialized in engineering consultations. "The term of this contract is 36 months implemented on three stages. The project aims to assess the capacity of Saudi regional water to identify the sites eligible for aquaculture in floating cages" explained Eng. Al-Eyadah. He also assured that the project shall take part in encouraging , to great extent, the private sector to enter this field to work in achieving the kingdom's strategic objective represented in reaching 100.000 tons of aquacultured products during the next five years and 600.000 tons for the next 15 years. This is consistent with KSA Vision 2030 in the ideal investment of our water resources and focusing efforts on supporting fish aquaculture.
Eng. Al-Eyadah referred that the project came to cope up with projects of Deputy Minister for Fishery Resources towards to achieve the MOA's strategy of developing fish resources sector in general and achieving the sustainable development of the aquaculture industrial in particular. The Ministry of Agriculture's strategy was recently crowned by the resolution of Council of Ministers approving the establishment of a national program to develop fish resources in Saudi Arabia. The Undersecretary of Fish Resources explained that the project idea was inspired from the ministry's development trends towards achieving food security and providing healthy safe food as well as developing and requalifying the coastal regions as one of the main sources in perfect management of natural resources.
"Aquaculture in floating cages is one of the most significant activities suiting such areas due to the merits of this system that make it unique compared to other aquaculture methods with regard to relative lowness of infrastructure requirements and need to minimum limits of facilities besides the good utilization of unoccupied sea borders. In addition, the project opens the field in front of a large number of human resources to find suitable job opportunities" Eng. Al-Eyadah stated. From his side, Eng. Al-Eyadah assured that fish resources projects have great attention from the government due to their effective and vital role in providing health and safe products with high food values. These projects also help Saudi Arabia to reach self-sufficiency of fish products and seek to launch new investment that take part in diversifying national economy inputs and production base
