Food and Drug Authority stopped importing fresh, chilled and frozen shrimps from the Indian State (the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Island).
The Authority explained that its decision has been taken based on the reports of World Organization for Animal Health which states that there are New Foci of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and infectious Hypodermal and Haematopoietic Necrosis Virus (IHHNV) in the mentioned State.
It indicated that the continuity of import stoppage of fresh, chilled and frozen shrimps from the Indian States (Meghalaya) , (Andhra Pradesh) , (West Bengal) , (Odisha) , (Tamil Nadu) , (Karnataka) , (Kerala) , (Goa) , (Gujarat) due to their infection with white spot syndrome virus (WSSV).
The Authority excluded the frozen products extracted from head and scale (except the ass of shrimps including the tail) provided that all the shipments must be examined apparently and in the laboratory in addition to the finished products prepared for human consumption (such as spiced products, products prepared for barbecue or the frying or any other different method of cooking) as well as heat treated products to guarantee elimination of viruses.
