Saudi Arabia has started the first project in its history to produce shrimp in inland waters on a commercial scale using the closed system in Tabuk Region, operating one of the international companies specialized in this field, to be one of the first leading and pioneering countries.
Operation of this project came as a result of the Ministry's tremendous efforts to support and encourage the use of state-of-the-art technologies in internal aquaculture projects, which are considered among the projects that will achieve sustainability and contribute to the preservation of natural and environmental resources.
Noteworthy, the Ministry, through the National Program for Development of Fisheries Sector, has launched and sponsored a number of important initiatives in favor of developing aquaculture industry sector in the country. It also worked to urge farmers and investors to move aggressively towards the use of the best modern technologies in this field, while adhering to the application of best practices. In terms of operation and production, this trend has been supported and sponsored by the Saudi rational government. The shrimp cultivation implemented in Saudi Arabia is considered as being one of the largest aquaculture programs in the entire region. It genuinely deserves to win the trust and acceptance of consumers locally and internationally.
Noteworthy, Saudi Arabia has identified aquaculture industry sector as being one of the most important agricultural sectors that are focused on in Saudi Arabia Vision 2030. Its attention to it came within the plans of transformation towards the optimal use of modern and sustainable technologies in national aquaculture, to contribute in turn to achieving self-sufficiency in seafood, and to participate in strengthening national food security.
